Tonight I came home from work to find Brad and the boys on the deck carving pumpkins. (Well, not carving exactly... more like scooping out pumpkin guts and playing with it.) Each year Brad carves his jack o'lantern face freehand -- never uses a pen to draw it on first or any type of stencil. I always use the same Williams Sonoma stencil from a pumpkin kit I bought years ago.

The boys have been practicing their scary faces for Halloween...
Pretty spooky for a Fireman and a Police Officer.
Believe it or not, the boys made it through the entire night camping last Friday! (Brad failed to take any pictures or videos as he apparently doesn't understand what qualifies as blog-worthy material.)
The rest of the weekend was jam packed as usual:
Saturday Drew had a soccer game and scored TWO of Annunciation's three goals; too bad they lost again, this time to Immacolata. Saturday night we hosted Granny Annie, Papa Fred, Aunts Annie & Lizzie, Uncle Brian and Danny for chili and hot dogs before going on the haunted hayride at Eckerts Farm.
Sunday Brad had a bunch of guys over from work to watch the Rams game -- Drew seemed a bit freaked out to have his teachers at his house so he, Ben and I went shopping and did some damage with Brad's Visa at Nordstrom's and Target.
I've been lazy about posting all the hayride pics to Flickr but will get around to it at some point this week -- no video as it was too dark for my FLIP to work.
So much for those cute jammies...
When it came time to put the boys to bed tonight, Ben started goofing around on his bottom bunk and somehow gashed his eye on the wooden slats holding up Drew's top bunk. Being the overly cautious mom that I am, I insisted we head out to the pediatric ER at Missouri Baptist.

Nothing major, just a small laceration that didn't require stitches. They couldn't glue it shut because of the close proximity to his eye so instead they used teeny tiny strips to keep it sealed shut.
Ben charmed all the nurses and the doctor who worked on his eye and earned himself two stickers. We are now back at home and Ben is finally asleep in his bed.
I just knew bunk beds would be a bad idea for these two wild men and I'm sure this isn't our last trip to the ER.

I adore jammies with feet on my little buggers. So grateful cool, crisp autumn nights have arrived!

As I've mentioned before, the little buggers are extremely excited about HALLOWEEN... ghosts, witches, pumpkins, bats. All of it is so exciting and *spooky*! We've done some decorating around the house:
(The Alabaster Eagle is a bit of a distraction on the mantle but we can't find any other place to store display it.)
The giant spider is a favorite of Ben's
And Drew likes the wicked witch (which scares the bejeezus out of Ben).
As if the decorations weren't enough, we've been spending our evenings ready *spooky* stories. The current favorites are:

While a very welcome change from the nightly read of Go Dog Go, I think by November 1 I'll be happy to put the halloween books back in the closet for next year.
